Prathna Initiative is a non-government organization that was started in 2023 by a group of enthusiastic students of Tata Institute of Social Science (TISS). The name ‘Prathna’ originates from the Sanskrit language and translates to “Prathna,” which represents an invocation or call to action”. This formed the core ideology of the organization – that they were beginning to be the change they wished to see in society. In its last years of operation, Prathna has solidified its vision, identified its domains, and grown into a
reputable and recognizable NGO.

The Prathna Initiative is a non-governmental organization established by a collective of dedicated social development professionals and students from the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS). The name ‘Prathna’ is rooted in Sanskrit, symbolizing a “call to action,” embodying the aspiration of ” We strive to create a world where every individual has the opportunity to thrive.”

Guided by the motto “Empowering Lives, Transforming Futures,” the Prathna Initiative embarks on projects across various domains, aiming for comprehensive progress towards a world where empowerment is ubiquitous, catalyzing positive transformation, and nurturing a society founded on principles of equality, dignity, and opportunity for all individuals.

At it’s core, the organization is committed to uplifting the socioeconomic status of rural Indian communities through initiatives focused on women’s empowerment, entrepreneurship, livelihood generation, skill development, institutional building and grassroots capacity enhancement. They strive to embody the change the aspire to see in the society. Throughout it’s operational years, Prathna has crystallized it’s vision. identified key domains and emerged as a respected and a recognizable NGO.
